BFC Daugavpils and SK Super Nova were forced to settle for a point each after battling to a 0-0 draw in torrential rain at Jānis Skredelis Stadium in the 27th round of the Tonybet Virslīga.

Kick-off was delayed by 30 minutes due to work being carried out on the waterlogged pitch, but the match eventually went ahead despite the challenging conditions. Daugavpils controlled possession for much of the opening half, although their long-range efforts rarely troubled Super Nova goalkeeper Dāvis Viljams Veisbuks.

The visitors almost capitalised on a rare mistake in the 33rd minute. Veisbuks failed to gather a loose ball in the slippery conditions, allowing Doukumo Ayebadiepreye to react first inside the penalty area. However, the striker could only blast his close-range effort over the crossbar.

With clear-cut chances at a premium, the first half ended goalless.

Conditions worsened after the break as the rain intensified, making the surface increasingly difficult to play on. Super Nova nearly took advantage in the 51st minute when Ņikita Barkovskis slipped near the touchline, allowing Agris Glaudāns to burst forward before picking out Ivans Patrikejevs inside the penalty area. The midfielder found himself in an excellent position but dragged his effort narrowly wide of the far post.

As the downpour continued, both teams struggled to keep their footing, with the match becoming increasingly unpredictable. Daugavpils came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 68th minute when Joel Yakubu delivered a low cross into the six-yard box. Ayebadiepreye managed to get a touch, but his flick rolled agonisingly wide of the post.

The rain eased slightly in the closing stages, allowing both sides to create one final opportunity each, but neither could find the breakthrough as the match finished 0-0.

The point lifts Daugavpils back into fourth place in the Virslīga standings, level on points with FK Liepāja, although the Kurzeme side still have a game in hand. Super Nova remain sixth, nine points behind both Daugavpils and Liepāja.

Super Nova return to action next Saturday with an away trip to FK Auda, while Daugavpils travel to face FK Grobiņa on the same day.
