The opening match of the 18th round in the Tonybet Virslīga ended without a winner as BFC Daugavpils and SK Super Nova played out a goalless draw at the Esplanāde Stadium.

Both teams had opportunities to break the deadlock, but neither side was able to find the decisive touch in front of goal as the points were shared after a hard-fought encounter.

Daugavpils started brightly and created the first dangerous moments of the match. Rostand Ndjiki tested Dāvis Veisbuks inside the opening minutes before Super Nova responded through Valerijs Lizunovs, whose long-range effort was comfortably dealt with by Jānis Beks.

The visitors came closest to scoring in the first half after a corner kick when Amadou Samate found space inside the penalty area, but his close-range header drifted wide of the target. At the other end, Joel Yakubu forced a good save from Veisbuks, while Papa Gningue narrowly missed the target following a corner.

The game remained evenly balanced after the break. Daugavpils enjoyed more possession and territorial pressure, but Super Nova defended resolutely and limited the hosts to efforts from distance and set-piece situations.

Veisbuks proved to be one of the key figures for the visitors, producing important saves to deny Ndjiki on multiple occasions. The Super Nova goalkeeper first saved a close-range strike from the Daugavpils forward before later making another crucial stop from a header.

Super Nova continued to threaten on the counterattack midway through the second half when Valērijs Lizunovs headed over from a promising position.

As the match entered its closing stages, Daugavpils pushed forward in search of a winner. Mamadou Sylla forced another save from Veisbuks, while several late corners and crosses caused problems inside the Super Nova penalty area. However, the visitors stood firm to secure a point.

The result extends Daugavpils’ winless run to three league matches. After 18 rounds, Daugavpils remain sixth in the standings, while Super Nova continue their push for a place in the top half of the table.
