Latvia midfielder Eduards Dašķevičs says the squad are clear on what head coach Paolo Nicolato expects as they build towards Friday’s Baltic Cup semi-final away to Lithuania.

Latvia face Lithuania on 6 June, with the winners set to meet either Estonia or the Faroe Islands in the final at Riga’s LNK Sporta parks on 9 June.

Dašķevičs said the national team camp has focused heavily on tactical detail, particularly Latvia’s defensive work and the transition into attack.

“We’ve worked well tactically so far. We know what the coach wants from us, what he demands, and we’ll try to deliver it,” Dašķevičs told the Latvian Football Federation.

He added: “We’re working most on the tactical aspects – how we defend and how we want to move into attack. Everyone knows their positions, everyone knows what the coach wants from us. Our task is very simple – win the next match.”

Dašķevičs also highlighted a positive mood in the camp, while noting the shift in mindset required when moving from club football to international duty.

“The atmosphere in the team is very good. We laugh a lot, but at the same time we work a lot,” he said. “Switching from club to the national team was a challenge because it’s a different atmosphere. Here you represent your country.”

The midfielder said he is fit heading into the match. “I feel good, I’m without injuries. Hopefully on matchday me and my team will show a good performance,” he said.
