Ogre United rescued a late 1-1 draw against FK Auda in Tonybet Virslīga Matchday 7, with captain Kristers Čudars scoring in stoppage time to deny the visitors, who are now winless in two matches for the first time this season.
The first real chance of the game came in the 19th minute for the hosts, when Ugandan forward Kabagambe Johnson created space for himself and fired a powerful shot, but it went straight at goalkeeper Nils Toms Puriņš.
Auda enjoyed more possession in the first half but struggled to create clear chances in front of Ņikita Parfjonovs’ goal. Jayden Gerold was particularly active throughout the match, constantly pushing forward and creating problems for the defence.
The breakthrough finally came in the 66th minute. After a cross from Tin Hrvoj on the right, Wally Fofana controlled the ball in the box and calmly guided it into the net from close range to give Auda a 1-0 lead.
Ogre once again had to chase the game, as they have done in several matches this season. As seen previously, they became much more open and attacking in the second half, and their task was made easier when Auda were reduced to ten men. Gerold, who had otherwise been one of the visitors’ best performers, was shown a straight red card after striking goalkeeper Parfjonovs.
Despite being a man down, Auda still threatened and nearly doubled their lead in the 90th minute, when Eduards Dašķevičs struck the crossbar from a long-range free kick.
Just like earlier in the day in the Tukums vs Liepāja match, the drama unfolded in stoppage time. Ogre applied heavy pressure in the final moments, and it paid off in the very last minute of added time. Emīls Sprukts, who had been one of the standout performers, delivered a cross from the right into the penalty area, finding captain Kristers Čudars. His shot, aided by a deflection off Auda defender Moussa Ouedraogo, found the back of the net to secure a point for the hosts.
It was Ogre’s third draw of the season as they continue to search for their first win, while Auda dropped points again – following their previous round result against Daugavpils – this time against league newcomers Ogre United.
Ogre will next be in action on Wednesday in the Virslīga, visiting reigning champions Riga FC in the opening match at Skonto Stadium, while Auda will travel to Jelgava a day earlier.
