VfL Bochum 1848 from the German 2. Bundesliga are looking to add a key figure to the heart of their defence and Estonia captain Karol Mets has been listed as one of two remaining candidates, according to German magazine Kicker.

Head coach Uwe Rösler, preparing for his second season in charge, has said he wants a left-sided centre-back who can become an important player in his back line.

Mets, 33, became a free agent this summer after 3.5 years at St. Pauli, where he featured in both the 2. Bundesliga and Bundesliga. St. Pauli finished bottom last season and were relegated, bringing his spell at the club to an end.

Speaking earlier in June to Soccernet show “Üks ühele”, Mets said he was weighing up his options and would not be rushed into a decision.

“I want to be happy when I sign that contract. Then I can work in peace,” he said. “If I do something my soul doesn’t want to do, then I feel like I’m selling myself somewhere I don’t actually want to be.”
