In the Tonybet Virslīga Matchday 6 clash in Salaspils, Ogre United came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against FK Grobiņa, although the visitors were left ruing a huge missed opportunity to snatch all three points in the dying moments.

The opening stages of the match were short on chances, with both sides struggling to create clear opportunities. The first shot on target arrived only in the 27th minute, when Tymofii Marusii tried his luck from long range, but his effort was comfortably handled by Grobiņa goalkeeper Vjačeslavs Kudrjavcevs.

Moments later, the visitors created the best chance of the first half and made it count. Ali Aruna, who had endured a difficult debut in the previous match, won a penalty after being brought down inside the box. Artjoms Puzirevskis stepped up and confidently converted from the spot to give Grobiņa a 1-0 lead.

Grobiņa had a golden chance to double their advantage early in the second half. Following a set-piece, Lithuanian defender Rolandas Baravykas found himself unmarked, but his header – though directed towards the corner – lacked power, allowing Ņikita Parfjonovs to make the save.

Just minutes later, the game turned in bizarre fashion. A defensive mishap inside the Grobiņa penalty area saw substitute Jose Ribeiro attempt to clear the ball, only to strike his teammate Krišjānis Rupeiks. The rebound fell kindly to Felipe Machado, who quickly set up Ugandan youngster Kabagambe Johnson, and the 19-year-old fired a composed finish into the far corner to level the score at 1-1.

The drama did not end there. In stoppage time, Grobiņa came agonizingly close to restoring their lead. After Devids Dobrecovs’ close-range effort was brilliantly saved by Parfjonovs, the rebound fell to Rodrigo Gaučis with an open goal at his mercy. However, Rūdolfs Ziemelis produced a crucial last-ditch block to deny what seemed a certain winner, leaving Grobiņa players and fans in disbelief.

The match ultimately ended level, with Ogre United securing their second point of the season, while Grobiņa moved to eight points from six matches, sitting sixth in the standings.

Ogre United will return to action on Friday when they host FK Auda, while Grobiņa will face defending champions Riga FC at home a day later.
