Tukums 2000 claimed their first win of the Virslīga season in emphatic fashion, thrashing FS Jelgava 5-0 at Tukums City Stadium as Ede Oloko struck twice late on.
After the match, FS Jelgava head coach Aleksandrs Basovs openly questioned his team’s level and consistency, pointing to repeat errors and to a lack of responsibility from his players.
“Football is about key mistakes. Here there were key mistakes,” Basovs said. “The indicators are the indicators, but goals are goals. There is defence and there is attack. Today we were very poor in both.”
Basovs said Jelgava’s start left the team with too much to recover from.
“It was a very poor start, three poor mistakes in defence. Tukums played well, but you cannot play like that at the beginning. At 3-0 it becomes very difficult,” he added. “Tactically, technically and emotionally, we lost the game today.”
When pressed, Basovs acknowledged that the result reflected deeper issues within his own side.
“This is our level for now. We can play one good game and then play very poorly,” he said. “Are the players ready to work and fight here or not? That is a very big question.”
Basovs said his triple substitution was intended to change the situation and send a message about responsibility.
“If you are in the starting line-up, it is a very big responsibility,” he said. “You have to work and show me and the fans that you are a strong player.”
