Tonybet Virslīga action continued at Skonto Stadium on Saturday, where FK Auda recovered from a halftime deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against FK Jelgava.
The visitors started the brighter of the two sides, enjoying more possession and looking dangerous in transition. Jelgava thought they had earned an early penalty when Tomaš Rataj broke through on goal and was brought down by Auda goalkeeper Nils Toms Puriņš. The referee initially pointed to the spot, but the decision was quickly overturned after an offside flag had been raised.
As the half progressed, Auda gradually took control of proceedings. The home side created a number of opportunities, forcing Adam Dvorak into several saves. Eduards Dašķevičs, Wally Fofana, Kader Kone and Josue Vergara all tested the Jelgava goalkeeper, while Vergara came closest with a powerful header that Dvorak managed to keep out.
Despite Auda’s pressure, it was Jelgava who struck first just before the break. In first-half stoppage time Glebs Žaleiko delivered a corner into the penalty area where Alans Kangars rose highest and guided a brilliantly placed header beyond Puriņš and into the net to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
Auda responded positively after the interval and eventually found their equaliser in the 59th minute. Dašķevičs beat his defender before unleashing a shot from just outside the penalty area. Dvorak got both hands to the effort, but could only divert the ball into his own net as Auda drew level at 1-1.
The goal changed the complexion of the match, but neither side managed to establish sustained control afterwards. Both coaches turned to their benches in an attempt to find a winner, making a series of substitutions as the pace of the game gradually slowed. Jelgava still carried a threat from set-pieces and nearly reclaimed the lead in the 79th minute when Žaleiko’s delivery found Leos Prior, whose header forced an excellent save from Puriņš.
At the other end, Auda continued searching for a breakthrough through Dašķevičs, Vergara and Fofana, but the decisive moment never arrived. The closing stages became increasingly physical, with several yellow cards shown as both teams battled for three points.
Neither side could find a late winner, however, and the points were ultimately shared after an entertaining contest in the Latvian capital.
