Lithuanian champions FK Žalgiris have strengthened their defensive lineup with a new signing. 31-year-old Montenegrin defender Vasilije Radenović has joined the club.

Radenović arrives in Lithuania following a season in Azerbaijan, where he played for Baku’s Shamakhi FC (formerly known as Keşla/Inter), a club with a history of fielding several Lithuanian national team players.

The experienced defender brings a diverse international background, having previously played for clubs in Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Germany. He began his football journey in his hometown of Danilovgrad and made his professional debut with Kolubara in Serbia’s second division.

His career later took him to Proleter Novi Sad, where he helped the team earn promotion to the Serbian SuperLiga. He also played for Žarkovo, Germany’s Lichtenauer, and Serbian side Jagodina.

Between 2021 and 2023, Radenović returned to Montenegro, representing Jezero and Petrovac before joining Bosnian club GOŠK Gabela.

His signing comes at a crucial time for Žalgiris, as the team has recently been dealing with injuries to defenders Younn Zahary and Vytis Pavilonis, as well as a suspension for Thomas Basila.

Earlier in June, Žalgiris also welcomed Croatian defender Luka Dumančić and saw the return of experienced striker Liviu Antal to the squad.

Žalgiris’ next match is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, when they will face FC Hegelmann.
