The Lithuanian women’s national football team wrapped up their UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign on Tuesday night with a narrow 0–1 defeat to Montenegro on home turf.
The visitors from Montenegro began the game with slightly more initiative, enjoying longer spells of possession early on. However, their control of the ball failed to translate into meaningful chances in the final third.
Lithuania, in turn, were patient in their build-up and nearly took the lead after a clever series of passes opened up a golden opportunity for Rimantė Jonušaitė, whose shot narrowly missed the far post.
As the match progressed, play evened out, with neither side able to break through. The first real action came in the closing minutes of the first half, when Ema Kriaučiūnaitė fired wide from close range. Moments later, Meda Šeškutė made a crucial save at the other end to deny Montenegro just before the halftime whistle.
After the break, Lithuania came out with renewed energy, and Jonušaitė once again came close—this time rattling the frame of the goal with a powerful strike. But it was Montenegro who would find the breakthrough. In the 62nd minute, forward Medina Dešić unleashed a thunderous shot into the far corner, leaving Šeškutė with no chance and giving her team a 1–0 lead.
Despite battling hard in the final minutes, Lithuania couldn’t find an equalizer and had to settle for defeat in their final group-stage match.
With three points from four games, Lithuania finished the campaign in third place in their group.
