The Estonian Premium Liiga club Tartu JK Tammeka has announced the departure of manager Marti Pähn after a challenging start to the season. Under his leadership, the team played eight league matches, managing to secure only four points.
Marti Pähn, the 36-year-old coach took charge in July 2022, succeeding Portuguese coach Miguel Santos. This season, Tartu JK Tammeka began on a positive note with a 2:1 victory against JK Tallinna Kalev. However, they struggled to maintain that momentum, going winless in their next seven matches, which included one draw and six losses.
In a club statement, Tartu JK Tammeka expressed gratitude for Pähn’s contributions, saying, “We would like to sincerely thank our former head coach Marti Pähn for his contribution to the development of our team. His guidance and supportive approach have left a deep imprint that we are proud and grateful for!”
Tammeka’s CEO, Kristjan Tiirik, stated to Soccernet.ee, “One side is that our season so far has not gone as we set our goals.” He also suggested that it is possible for Pähn to continue with the club in a different role, saying, “We have had Marti before and we don’t want to throw him overboard. If he doesn’t have any other challenges right now, we’ll see if we can find an outlet for him or what possibilities exist to support him in this regard.”
During his two and a half seasons at the helm, Pähn oversaw 108 games across all competitions, achieving a record of 29 wins, 29 draws, and 50 losses. Last season, under his leadership, Tartu JK Tammeka finished fifth, marking their highest placement since 2020 when they also finished in fifth place.
In their upcoming league match, Tartu JK Tammeka will host FC Kuressaare on Tuesday, with 37-year-old Siim Valtna stepping in as interim manager. Valtna is currently the head of the football school at Tammeka and has previously managed various youth teams within the club.
