
The Lithuanian football community is mourning the loss of one of its most prominent figures. Julius Kvedaras, former president and general secretary of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), has passed away at the age of 75.
The LFF confirmed the news in a statement:“The football community has received sad news – a well-known figure in Lithuanian football, Julius Kvedaras, has passed away. He was 75 years old.”
According to the Lithuanian Police Department, Kvedaras was found dead in his home on Kankorėžių Street in Palanga on April 18 at approximately 1:35 PM. A revolver, believed to be illegally held and without identification markings, was discovered at the scene. Authorities have launched a pre-trial investigation to determine the cause of death.
A life dedicated to football
Julius Kvedaras enjoyed a rich and varied career in football. As a player, he represented several teams in Kaunas, Vilnius, and Klaipėda. During his playing days, he won silver and bronze medals in the Lithuanian Championship and lifted the Lithuanian Football Cup five times.
He later transitioned into coaching, where he led the Inkaras-Grifas team to both a national championship and a cup victory.
In administrative roles, Kvedaras made a lasting impact on Lithuanian football. He served as the LFF’s general secretary from 2000 to 2012, before becoming the federation’s president from 2012 to 2016. After his presidency, he was succeeded by Edvinas Eimontas.
Even after stepping down from the LFF leadership, Kvedaras remained actively involved in the sport. In May 2017, he was appointed Vice President of the Kaunas County Football Federation (KAFF), maintaining his influence and passion for the game.
His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Lithuanian football history. Julius Kvedaras will be remembered for his lifelong dedication to the sport, both on and off the pitch.
