In the Bulgarian EfBet Liga, Botev Plovdiv secured their first league win since December 5, 2024, defeating Septemvri Sofia 3:0. Estonian national team defender Joonas Tamm was once again in the starting lineup, while his teammates Matvei Igonen and Matijus Reimeikis remained unused substitutes for the match.
Botev Plovdiv, who were in second place in the league table and ten points behind leaders Ludogorets in December, endured a ten-game winless streak, drawing five times and losing five times since then. Today’s victory ended that streak, which they desperately needed.
Ivelin Popov opened the scoring in the 38th minute, and Nigerian player Samuel Akere doubled the lead in the second half. Late in the game, Botev added another goal, while Joonas Tamm helped his side maintain a clean sheet.
Tamm played the entire match and, in his second season with Botev Plovdiv, has made 22 appearances this season. Meanwhile, his Baltic teammates, goalkeeper Matvei Igonen, have made three appearances this season, and Reimeikis has made 13.
With this win, Botev ended their ten-game winless streak and moved up to 6th place in the league table. Their next match will be on Friday against Lokomotiv Sofia.
