The Lithuanian women’s national football team suffered their second defeat in the UEFA Nations League C today, losing 0-2 to the Azerbaijan women’s national team. At the end of the match, 15-year-old FK Gintra player Justina Blaževičiūte made her national team debut.
Manager Tomas Ražanauskas made several changes to the starting lineup for this match compared to their game in February against Montenegro. Lolita Zižytė and Auste Bernotaitė, who did not participate in the February games, were included in the starting XI, and Greta Valikonienė made her first start for the national team in over two years. Liucija Vaitukaitytė, a player from the Italian club Como, was unable to play due to injury.
Throughout the match, the Azerbaijani team created more threatening opportunities. Esra Manya scored the first goal in the 20th minute, followed by Nigar Mirzaliyeva, who doubled the score in the 55th minute.
Lithuania’s best chance came in the 61st minute when Laura Kubiliūtė’s shot was saved by the opposing goalkeeper, and soon after, Ugnė Lazdauskaitė’s follow-up shot was blocked by a defender. A highlight of the match was the debut of FK Gintra teenager Justina Blaževičiūtė, who made her first appearance for the national team at just 15 years old.
The Lithuanians will play a rematch against Azerbaijan on May 30 and will conclude their Nations League campaign on June 3 with a match against Montenegro.
