The 34-year-old goalkeeper Emilijus Zubas, who earned 19 caps for the Lithuanian national team, has announced his retirement from professional football. The primary reason behind his decision is a severe ligament injury sustained last year, which led doctors to advise against continuing his career at a professional level.

Zubas became the first-choice goalkeeper for Panevėžys Ekranas at just 19 years old. Over the years, he played for clubs in Latvia, Poland, Cyprus, Denmark, Israel, and Portugal. His final professional stint was with Tel Aviv’s Hapoel.

The goalkeeper made his debut for the Lithuanian national team twelve years ago in a friendly match against Albania. His last appearance in the national jersey came exactly a year ago in a victorious match against Gibraltar.

Despite retiring from professional football, Zubas will remain involved in the sport in some capacity, ensuring that his expertise and passion continue to contribute to the game.
