In A Lyga, FC Hegelmann secured a 2-1 victory against FK Riteriai, scoring both of their goals in the first half. It was Hegelmann’s third straight league win.
Both teams entered the match in good form as Hegelmann previously won two consecutive games before the international break, while Riteriai drawn twice in their last two matches against title contenders FK Žalgiris and FK Kauno Žalgiris.
The first goal of the game, which held at Raudondvario Stadium, was scored by Lithuanian national team player Domantas Antanavičius, who converted a penalty kick in the 14th minute following a clumsy foul by Rokas Stanulevičius.
Riteriai had a chance to equalize, but Nojus Stankevičius’s attempt from close range went just wide of the target. Moments later, Hegelmann forward Rasheed Yusuf capitalized on an opportunity and headed the ball into the net after a great cross from the left.
Riteriai emerged from halftime with determination to make a comeback, immediately testing Hegelmann’s goalkeeper, Arijus Bražinskas. He was beaten in the 63rd minute by substitute Deinmantas Rimpa, who scored with a shot from the edge of the box that found the bottom left corner, cutting Hegelmann’s lead in half.
Riteriai found the back of the net again shortly thereafter, but the goal was quickly disallowed due to offside. Hegelmann held on to secure their third consecutive league win, while Riteriai’s two-game unbeaten streak came to an end.
Hegelmann will aim to extend its winning streak next Sunday when it faces Džiugas Telšiai, while Riteriai will host FK Paņevežys the day before.
