After a little over a year together, FK Liepāja terminated contract with Senegalese defensive midfielder Cheikh Diouf. French-born Guinean winger Amadou Traoré joins the club in his place.
According to our sources, FK Liepāja terminated agreement with 23 year old defensive midfielder Cheikh Diouf. The Senegalese midfielder originally joined the Courland club last February as part of yet another rebuilding effort by then-manager Tamaz Pertia. Coming over from the well-known Diambars academy, this was Diouf’s first experience of both professional football and European football.
During his time with Liepāja, former Senegal U-17 international made a total of 29 appearances, including 2 in the UEFA Conference League Qualifiers.
At the same time, the club signed French-born Guinean winger Amadou Traoré (23). Traoré, who is a product of Paris FC and Girondins de Bordeaux academies, is coming to Latvia with experience of playing in French junior leagues as well as for Sporting Kansas City II in the third tied of MLS Next Pro league in the United States and, most recently, the Greek second-tier side Panachaiki GE, where he made 35 appearances, scoring no goals but making 3 assists.
Eager fans will have a chance to potentially see their new signing in action already this Saturday, as Liepāja are travelling to Riga where they will face reigning Champions and arch-rivals of their club’s president – FC RFS.
