Riga FC has announced the signing of 25-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder Jackson Kenio, who most recently played for Istanbulspor in Turkey.
Kenio is a product of the ABC Futebol Clube academy. He made his professional debut at the age of 17 in 2017 while playing in the Brazilian Serie B. In 2019, he moved to Europe to join the Austrian second-division side Vorwärts Steyr, but he returned to Brazil soon after.
In 2020, Kenio attempted to establish himself in Europe for the second time by signing with Albanian club KF Egnatia. During his time there, he won both the Albanian second division and the Albanian top-flight league. In total, he made 98 appearances for Egnatia, scoring 18 goals and providing nine assists.
His strong performances in Albania led to a transfer to the Turkish Super Lig, where he was acquired by Istanbulspor in the summer of 2023 for €400,000. In his first season with Istanbulspor, he made 36 appearances, scored one goal, and assisted on five others, but the team was relegated to the Turkish 1. Lig.
This season Kenio played only ten games for Istanbulspor in the Turkish second division before it was announced last week that his contract had ended by mutual agreement.
Now, the Brazilian joins Latvian powerhouse Riga FC, which has had a tough start to the new season. As one of the title contenders, they currently have five points after three games, consisting of one win and two draws.
