In the opening match of the TOPsport A Lyga Matchday 3, FC Džiugas Telšiai defeated DFK Dainava Alytus 2-0 to secure their second consecutive league victory.
The nominal home team, Dainava Alytus, began the season with one point from two matches. In contrast, Džiugas bounced back from their opening game loss to FK Žalgiris by winning against FK Kauno Žalgiris in their next match.
Last season, Dainava Alytus had the upper hand in their four league encounters, winning two, while Džiugas managed one victory, and the other game ended in a draw.
Both teams started proactively, with Džiugas’s Vinckus taking the first shot of the match, which was expertly saved by the goalkeeper. On the other side, Džiugas’s keeper, Paukšte, made two good saves within the first ten minutes.
The game’s opening goal came in the 34th minute. Džiugas’s David Martin held the ball well before passing it to the sprinting Vinckus. Vinckus sent a cross into the box, where 18-year-old Aram Baghdasaryan outmaneuvered the defender and found the back of the net, giving Telšiai a 1-0 lead.
As the first half and the start of the second half progressed, Dainava’s goalkeeper, Volodymyr Krynskyi, was instrumental in keeping the score from reaching two goals. However, momentum shifted late in the game when Fray Kayramani attempted to pass to the running Oleksandr Kurtsev, but the ball eluded him. The goalkeeper had to react quickly to clear it, but the rebound fell right to substitute Hirotaka Yamada, who tapped it in to double the lead. This sealed Džiugas Telšiai’s second consecutive win.
As the teams head into the international break, both will return to A Lyga action at the end of March. Dainava Alytus will host FK Žalgiris, while Džiugas Telšiai will travel to Marijampole to face the local FK Sūduva.
