In the TOPsport A Lyga match, FA Šiauliai failed to maintain their lead against DFK Dainavas Alytus, resulting in a 2-2 draw. 20-year-old Denis Ževžikovas tied the game in the 87th minute as he scored his first A Lyga goal.
Both teams had played their opening matches last week, with Šiauliai winning 3-1 against FK Paņevežys, while Dainavas Alytus lost with the same result against FK Kauno Žalgiris. Last season, the two teams each secured a win in their encounters, while two matches ended in draws.
The game started well for Šiauliai under coach Dainis Kazakevičs. In the 13th minute, on a counter-attack, Micevičius found Romanovskij on the right flank. Romanovskij delivered a low cross across the goal, which was finished by Augustinas Klimavičius at the far post, giving Šiauliai an early lead.
At the start of the second half, Dainava Alytus equalized when Gaspuitis scored an unfortunate own goal. As the match progressed, the game appeared to end in a draw. However, in the 82nd minute, after a one-two exchange with Deividas Dovydaitis, Komissarov, the Estonian forward, scored his first goal in the Lithuanian A Lyga, putting Šiauliai ahead once again.
Just five minutes later, Dainava’s 20-year-old midfielder Denis Ževžikovas netted a spectacular goal to level the game. Positioned outside the box, he held the ball patiently, waiting for an opportunity to shoot, and then found the bottom left corner for his first A Lyga goal.
Near the end of stoppage time, Šiauliai’s Benny Silva had a chance to score his second goal in as many games, but his shot from the edge of the box was magnificently saved by Ukrainian goalkeeper Krynskyi.
As a result, Dainava earned their first point of the season, while FA Šiauliai remains at the top of the league standings with four points after the first two rounds.
