FC Gintra sign Nigerian striker Victoria Igbonoba as the club aims for 21st consecutive title in 2025

FC Gintra announced the signing of Nigerian striker Victoria Igbonoba from Dudullu Spor Women’s Football in the Turkish top tier.

Victoria Igbonoba (21) was presented yesterday as the latest addition to FC Gintra squad for 2025. Igbonoba, who is a striker, will bring much international experience to the Lithuanian women’s football powerhouse, having previously played in Turkey, Kazakhstan and Benin.

Commenting on her signing to the club’s official media, Igbonoba revealed that her goal for the upcoming season is to become the top scorer of the club and to lift both domestic and international trophies:

I am happy to join Gintra, a team that has dominated the Lithuanian women’s football map for many years and participates in the highest-level international tournament – the UEFA Women’s Champions League. This club has championship traditions and I was inspired by its desire to improve and at the same time promote my personal growth. I am a striker who loves to score goals. I can play in any position in the attacking line, but I feel best as a center forward

FC Gintra, who will be looking for their 21st consecutive, and 24th overall, Lithuanian title have their sights set on the Baltic and, especially, European success this year.

Gintra will open their 2025 season against RFS Women in the Baltic Women’s Football League (BWFL) on 8th March at 19:00 local time in Riga at the Rimi Olympic Centre. Last year, Gintra lost to RFS Women in the BWFL Play-off’s, causing them to finish third in the competition overall, which was ultimately won by Estonian FC Flora.

The Lithuanian Women’s A Lyga is contested by six clubs over 20 matchdays. Last season, Gintra only lost 9 points during the entirety of the season and finished top of the table with a +72 goals scored to conceded difference and a 10-point lead over their closest rivals – MFA Žalgiris-MRU, the women’s team of Lithuanian men’s champions FK Žalgiris. For comparison, the team finishing bottom – FK Saned – did so with no points and a -130 goals scored to conceded difference (conceding on average 6.5 goals per match, while scoring 0.35).
