Commenting to club’s official media, Michał Rydz, president of Widzew Łódź, commented on the appointment:
We wanted to have a strong sports director who would be responsible for the entire department. Niko has extensive international experience and that is why we believe he will help develop the Club in the long term. The role of the Board is to create the right conditions for the sports department to work, and from today the new director will be responsible for its functioning. This function is of key importance to us and will allow us to make further decisions
With 11 matches remaining, Widzew Łódź are currently 12th in the Polish top tier, 5 points clear of the relegation zone and 20 points behind top of the table.
