In the Swiss Super League, Andrejs Cigaņiks started on the bench for Luzern for the first time this season during their match against Yverdon, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Despite this being a challenging game, Cigaņiks played a pivotal role in helping his team come back.

Before this match, Luzern was among the teams vying for the league title, while their opponents, Yverdon, were at the bottom of the table. Cigaņiks did not start the match, coming on as a substitute in the 57th minute when Luzern was trailing 0-1. The situation worsened for Luzern when Yverdon doubled their lead to 0-2 in the 63rd minute, significantly diminishing Luzern’s chances of securing at least a point.

Things took an even darker turn when Spadanuda missed a penalty in the 76th minute, adding to Luzern’s frustrations. However, the game’s turning point occurred in the 88th minute when Luzern scored twice in quick succession to equalize. The first goal was a penalty converted by German Sinan Karweina. The second came from Aleksandar Stankovic, who headed in his second goal of the season after a superb corner kick delivery by Cigaņiks, marking his fourth assist of the season.

Luzern secured a crucial point from the match, placing them third in the league table with 43 points, just behind Basel and Servette, both with 45 points.

Cigaņiks and Luzern’s next game will be crucial as they will host Basel on Saturday.
