Today in the Dutch Eerste Divisie, Dario Šits returned to the field after more than a three-month absence due to a foot injury he sustained while playing for the national team. His club, Helmond Sport, suffered a 1-3 defeat against league leaders FC Volendam.
The 21-year-old forward last played on November 14 in an away match against North Macedonia. Although Šits finished that game, it was later revealed that he had broken his foot after being stepped on. Following surgery, he was sidelined for the next three and a half months.
Today, Šits was named on the bench for Helmond Sport, who are striving for a playoff spot in the promotion battle.
He made his long-awaited return in the 63rd minute when he substituted in with the score tied at 1-1. However, in the final minutes of the match, Volendam substitute Aurelio Oehlers scored two goals within 14 minutes, securing the win for his team and leaving Helmond Sport with their second consecutive defeat.
After 28 games, Helmond Sport is currently in 9th place in the league table with 39 points. They are just two points behind 8th place Emmen.
The next game for Dario and his club will be next Friday when they host Maastricht, who are currently in 13th place in the league table.
