On Sunday, it was a great day to be Raimonds Krollis. In his first start for his new club, Slovan Liberec, he scored two goals, helping the team secure a 3-1 victory over Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Chance Liga. Unfortunately, Raimonds was also substituted in the second half because he was not able to continue the game after suffering an injury.
The 23-year-old Latvian forward transferred to Slovan Liberec on the last day of the winter transfer window for around 300,000 Euros from Italian Serie B team Spezia.
Last week, Raimonds debuted by coming off the bench in a match against Viktoria Plzen. Although he was very active, the team suffered a heartbreaking 2-3 defeat.
His strong performance from last week earned him a spot in the starting lineup today, and he did not disappoint. In the 37th minute, Plechaty’s long ball found Raimonds, who skillfully shielded the defender and got in front of him with the ball. He made a great individual effort, dribbling past the goalkeeper and finding the net to open his scoring account for 2025. This was also his first official goal since May 5, 2024, when he scored for Vyškov in the Czech second division.
This must have been a huge relief for Raimonds after his difficult time in Italy as just seven minutes later, Krollis celebrated again! Nigerian winger Ahmad Ghali crossed the ball into the box, and with Raimonds making a run into the open channel, he unleashed a powerful shot from close range to score his second goal.
At the beginning of the second half, Slovan Liberec extended their lead to three goals, with Qendrim Zyba scoring his first goal for the club.
In the 71st minute, the fans gave Raimonds a warm ovation as he was substituted due to an injury. Despite leaving the game, he delivered a man-of-the-match performance with his two goals. The Latvian national team player aims to regain the confidence and goal-scoring ability he showcased during the 2022 Virslīga-winning season with Valmiera FC, so let’s hope the injury is not serious.
With this victory, Slovan Liberec moved up to 10th place in the Czech Chance Liga, now holding 27 points after 22 games.
Raimonds and his team will play their next match on Sunday. They will face Bohemians in an away game.
