Latvian Virslīga newcomers SK Super Nova have strengthened their squad with the addition of 20-year-old striker Ruslans Deružinskis from the RFS system.
Born in 2004, Deružinskis began his career at the Rīgas Futbola Skola academy before spending time in the SK Super Nova youth system from 2019 to 2021. He later moved to RFS, where he played two full seasons for their reserve team in the Nākotnes Liga. In 2023, he made 15 appearances, scoring six goals. However, his breakthrough came last season when he netted 18 goals in 23 matches, finishing as the league’s second-highest scorer behind Marks Pačepko, who later joined FK Liepāja and went on loan to BFC Daugavpils.
Deružinskis made his senior debut for RFS on September 23 in the Latvian Cup semifinal, coming on for 27 minutes in a 2-1 victory over rivals Riga FC. He made his Virslīga debut just days later, appearing as a substitute against BFC Daugavpils. Additionally, he featured in the Latvian Cup final, playing from the 86th minute until the 112th minute in the extra-time clash.
Now, having earned a call-up to the Latvian U21 national team, Deružinskis embarks on a new challenge with SK Super Nova, where he is expected to play a significant role in his first full Virslīga season. He will compete with Ukrainian forward Dmytro Sula for playing time in the striker position.
