Rihards Matrevics, the 25-year-old Latvian national team goalkeeper, has ended his cooperation with Riga FC and, according to our sources, has already joined FK Auda’s training camp in Turkey, signing a contract with the club.

The 202 cm tall goalkeeper began his career in the SK Babīte system before moving to the prestigious West Ham United academy in 2015. In 2018, he joined the English club “Barnet” before switching to “Hendon.” In 2021, Matrevics returned to Latvia, joining Valmiera FC, where he won the Latvian championship title in 2022. This success earned him a move to Riga FC, the financially strongest club in the Baltic region.

However, he struggled for consistent playing time, featuring in only 9 league matches in 2023 and just 8 the previous season. His tenure at Riga FC was further complicated by tensions following his critical comments about the club’s physiotherapists and medical staff.

Now, Matrevics faces a new challenge at FK Auda, where he will compete for the starting goalkeeper position against experienced Latvian international Roberts Ozols, who joined Auda this winter after a season in Uzbekistan.

Since Paolo Nicolato took over as Latvia’s head coach, Matrevics has established himself as a key player for the national team, earning 12 caps so far.
