29-year-old Krišs Kārkliņš, who has played 17 games for the Latvian national team, has made a surprising transfer to Nākotnes Līga club Ogre United.

The full-back began his career in the Liepājas Metalurgs system and made his Virslīga debut with FK Liepāja, where he spent four seasons. In 2018, he played one season with Riga FC before moving to Valmiera FC for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He returned to FK Liepāja for the 2021 and 2022 campaigns, and for the last two seasons, he was with FK Auda, though he struggled for regular playing time.

Kārkliņš has played in multiple positions throughout his career, including right back, left back, defensive midfielder, and right midfielder. He is a two-time Virslīga champion, winning in 2015 with FK Liepāja and in 2018 with Riga FC, as well as a two-time Latvian Cup winner, lifting the trophy in 2017 with FK Liepāja and in 2018 with Riga FC.

The 178 cm tall player has also played 17 matches for the Latvian U21 national team and another 17 for the senior national team, making his debut in a 2020 Nations League match against Malta. His last call-up to the national team came in November 2023.

Now Kārkliņš has joined Ogre United, who finished 11th last season in the Latvian second division, as he looks to bring his experience to the club and help them achieve better results in the upcoming season.
