On the evening of February 3rd, Kaunas hosted the 2024 Lithuanian Football Awards ceremony. The event took place at the newly opened “Mokslo Sala”, bringing together the Lithuanian football community, players, coaches, industry professionals, and guests.
As usual, the ceremony honored the top scorers of the previous season from the TOPsport A Lyga, TOPsport Pirma Lyga, and TOPO centras Euronics Women’s A Lyga. Additionally, a special recognition was given to two individuals – former top-tier referee Jurijus Paškovskis and amateur player Jurgis Garšva. Last summer, during an amateur championship match, they had to step in and save a player’s life after he suffered cardiac arrest on the field. They provided first aid until emergency services arrived.
The awards ceremony then got underway. For the first time, Gvidas Gineitis was named the Best Lithuanian Footballer, while Rimantė Jonušaitė claimed the title of the Best Women’s Footballer, also for the first time. Both of them come from Mažeikiai, which is only the 8th biggest city in the country.
A new category was introduced this year – Best Lithuanian Beach Soccer Player – with Mantas Makutunovičius taking the honor. Meanwhile, Albertas Voskunovičius successfully defended his title as the Best Lithuanian Futsal Player. Andrius Skerla was recognized as the Best Men’s Team Coach, while Kotryna Kulbytė was named the Best Women’s Football Coach
