FK Liepāja has strengthened their attacking lineup with the signing of Ede Oloko, a 24-year-old Nigerian striker who was FS Jelgava’s standout performer last season. Oloko joins Liepāja ahead of the 2025 Virslīga season and will face stiff competition for a place in the starting lineup.
Before making his way to Europe, Oloko played in Nigeria and Benin, showcasing his talent in local leagues. His European journey began in the Czech Republic, where he impressed at Karlovy Vary in the country’s third division, scoring 6 goals in 7 matches. His performance caught the attention of SILON Táborsko, a club in the Czech second tier.
Oloko’s move to Latvia came in early 2024 when he joined FS Jelgava on loan, a deal that was later made permanent during the summer. In his debut season in the Latvian Virslīga, Oloko became Jelgava’s top scorer, netting 11 goals in 26 appearances. Despite his efforts, Jelgava finished at the bottom of the league.
Unfortunately, Oloko faced challenges towards the end of the season due to issues with work documentation, forcing him to miss the final nine rounds of the campaign. Now, with those problems behind him, Oloko is ready for a fresh start at FK Liepāja.
Oloko will compete for a spot in Liepāja’s starting lineup, but the competition will be tough, with forwards like Kyvon Leidsman, Djibril Gueye, Tresor Samba, and Bruno Melnis all vying for positions.
The Nigerian striker has already made his first appearance for Liepāja, featuring in a 2–1 friendly victory against Lithuanian side Banga. Liepāja will soon head to Turkey for a training camp, beginning on January 26.
