FK Sūduva has announced the signing of Japanese midfielder Kota Sakurai, who lastly played for FK TransINVEST, which was relegated from the A Lyga last season.

The 25-year-old joined TransINVEST before the previous season, following a year with Ogre United in Latvia, where he competed in the third division.

During his time at TransINVEST, Sakurai made 20 league appearances and participated in two matches in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers, in which his team lost on aggregate to the Czech side Mlada Boleslav.

Prior to his move to Europe, Sakurai played collegiate football for Dartmouth and spent one year with the Toronto FC organization.
