FK Sūduva has announced their second signing of the offseason. The former FA Šiauliai forward Nauris Petkevičius will strengthen the Marijampole’s attacking line.
The 24-year-old player began his career at Kaunas Stumbras before moving to French giants Lille in 2017. After three years in France, he returned to Lithuania and had an impressive season with FC Hegelmann, scoring 17 goals and providing 5 assists.
Following this successful performance, Petkevičius was given another opportunity abroad, joining Belgian side Charleroi. He was subsequently loaned to Antwerp Beerschot and Vilnius Žalgiris.
Last season, the former Lithuanian international played for A Lyga side FA Šiauliai, making 22 appearances across all competitions and scoring six goals.
Speaking about his move to Sūduva, Petkevičius mentioned that it all began with a call from the team’s new head coach, Donatas Vencevičius.
“This is not our first time working together. In 2020, it was coach Vencevičius who invited me to the Lithuanian youth national team and gave me the chance to play with older players,” recalled Petkevičius. “After discussing with the coach, I decided that I wanted to join Sūduva. Although Sūduva is not currently in the best phase, as it was during its championship-winning years, it is still a historic club with a promising future and big goals. I hope to help the team return to better times.”
In Marijampolė, Petkevičius is focused on the team’s success.
“My goal is to contribute to the team and help it achieve better results. If we perform well as a team, I believe my personal results will also improve. Ultimately, all attention should be on the team, as football is a team sport,” said Petkevičius. “The team’s objectives for the season are to finish as high as possible and aim for the Lithuanian Cup. The last two years have shown that anything is possible in this tournament, especially when teams like FK TransINVEST and FK Gargždai Banga have won it.”
