FK Sūduva has announced its first addition in this offseason: goalkeeper Ignas Plūkas returns to the Marijampole club.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper spent the last two seasons with FK Kauno Žalgiris, where he was primarily a backup. During his time there, he made 18 league appearances. Now, Ignas has signed with Sūduva, the team he played for from 2018 to 2020. During that period, he was also a backup and had limited playing time as he watched Marijampole’s legendary goalkeeper Ivan Kardum lead the team to two A Lyga titles, one Lithuanian Cup, and one Super Cup.

“I had a long conversation with club director Dovydas Lastauskas, and I realized that I wanted to return to Sūduva because I have unfinished business here. I want to prove to myself and those around me that I can still play well,” said the goalkeeper. “I’ve returned to a place where I know what to expect and how things are. We’ll see how it goes.”

With the number one goalkeeper position now open, Ignas has a great opportunity to claim it, and he emphasized that his priority is to play.

“I’m recovering from a shoulder injury, but everything is fine now. The injury is in the past; I just need to prove that I can play. Those would be my personal goals,” he stated. “It’s hard to discuss the team’s goals at this stage; a lot depends on the lineup. However, we all understand that we want to improve on last year’s performance. Our aim is to be around the middle of the tournament table, and time will tell how everything unfolds.”
