Riga FC has officially announced the Slovakian specialist Adrian Gula as the club’s new manager. Yesterday, we reported that the agreement had been finalized, and the only thing remaining was to present him to the public, which the capital city team did today.

The 49-year-old began his career as a professional footballer before transitioning to coaching in 2009 at the age of 33. Gula’s managerial journey started with Slovakian club AS Trenčín, where he spent three and a half years. In the summer of 2013, he took a significant step forward by joining Slovakian powerhouse MŠK Žilina, where he spent five successful years.

In 2018, Gula was appointed manager of Slovakia’s U21 national team, a role he held for a year and a half before being offered an irresistible opportunity to lead Czech giants Viktoria Plzeň. After an 18-month stint in Plzeň, he moved to Poland’s Wisła Kraków for another year and a half, followed by a return to Slovakia to manage DAC Dunajská Streda for the same duration.

In the summer of 2024, Gula took over as head coach of Cypriot First Division side Apollon Limassol. However, his time in Cyprus was short-lived, as he now joins Riga FC.

Riga FC departed for their UAE training camp on January 9, with three friendly matches lined up during the preseason. They are scheduled to face United FC on January 19, Gula’s former club MŠK Žilina on January 23, and Uzbekistani side Sogdiana on January 27.

The Latvian Virslīga season is set to kick off in the second week of March.
