Viimsi JK, who finished the Women’s Meistriliiga at sixth place last season, have announced, that their new head coach will be the legendary Anastassia Morkovkina.
The 43-year old Morkovkina was crowned the champion of Estonia on 15 occasions, being named Player of the Year on 8 occasions. She represented Estonia in 75 games, scoring 40 goals, which is unbeaten to this day. She started her coaching career in 2018, taking charge at her long time home club, the now deceased PJK. She then coached Viimsi for a period and in 2022, she took charge of the Estonian Women’s national team with Sirje Kapper. Winning the Baltic Cup on two occasions, Morkovkina and Kapper were replaced by former FC Flora head coach Aleksandra Ševoldajeva.
Now, owning a UEFA A-tier coaching license, Morkovkina is back at Viimsi:
“Joining the Viimsi JK women’s team gives me gratitude and excitement. I have been connected to Viimsi earlier, that being at youth levels, but now i’m glad that I can contribute in the development of the club and Estonian football as a whole with a Meistriliiga side. The base is good, judging on the roster and coaching staff, but the rest is all in our hands. My first goal is to meet the team and to develop an inspiring environment, where everybody wants to belong and where everyone wants to give their best.”
Morkovkina’s assistant will be Viimsi academy graduate Hannes Värs, who worked at Tammeka, while studying in Tartu, but has now returned home. The 25-year old has a UEFA B-tier coaching license. The strength coach will be Raul Jerva, physios Mark Vilenski and Matilde Sigijane, goalkeeping coach Martin Kaalma and second assistant Martin Reim.
