FK Auda announced today on social media that their first signing in preparation for the new Virslīga season is the Latvian left-back Emīls Birka.
The 24-year-old Latvian international had his best season last year, scoring twice and assisting 12 times in 34 league appearances for Valmiera FC. Emīls made his debut for the Latvian National team in 2024 during the Baltic Cup against Lithuania.
After three seasons with Valmiera, where he won the league title in 2022, he is now ready for a new challenge as Emīls expressed his excitement, stating, “I am happy to join the FK Auda team. In life, especially in sports, changes are inevitable, but I believe this is a positive turning point in my career. In this team, I will have the opportunity to continue my development and help the Auda organization achieve its sporting goals. Even though we’ve only had a few training sessions, I can say I’ve already settled in. I can’t wait for the camp to continue and for the season to start.”
Before moving to Valmiera, Emīls played for FK Metta, where he made his Virslīga debut in 2017. Overall, he has made 188 appearances in the Virslīga, scoring nine goals and providing 21 assists.
