Czechia highest league club, SK Sigma Olomouc, has announced the signing of Lithuanian winger Artūr Dolžnikov from A Lyga side FK Kauno Žalgiris.

This morning, Lithuanian sports journalist Mantas Krasnickas reported on his X account that the 24-year-old is set to leave the A Lyga bronze medalists to join Sigma Olomouc on a three-year deal, with the club paying a buyout fee to FK Kauno Žalgiris.

A few hours later, both teams officially confirmed the transfer, and Dolžnikov was presented as the club’s third winter transfer window signing. As reported by Krasnickas, Dolžnikov has signed a three-year contract.

The 15-time Lithuanian international will play abroad for the first time, as he has only played in Lithuania before this move. Last season, Dolžnikov made 35 appearances in the A Lyga, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

Sigma Olomouc currently sits 7th in the 16-team Czech Chance Liga table, just two points shy of breaking into the top six, which would secure a spot in the playoffs to battle for a place in Europe.

For Artūr Dolžnikov, this move represents a significant advancement in his career, taking him to a high-level European league.

“I’m happy to join a club like Sigma. I look forward to training sessions and matches with my new teammates. This will be a new experience, as it’s my first time playing abroad. My goal remains to win every match, and I won’t change that,” said Artūr Dolžnikov.

Given his remarkable progress last season and his standout performances for the national team, Dolžnikov seems well-prepared to take this vital step in his career, as highlighted by Sigma Olomouc’s sports director, Ladislav Minář. “Artūr is a Lithuanian international who regularly played in the last Nations League. The coaches were impressed by him. He should help us increase our attacking threat on the flanks. The negotiations were challenging because he had a year left on his contract with his previous club. However, we managed to secure his signing, and we believe he will perform well with us.”

Sigma Olomouc is one of the few clubs in Europe who look at the Baltic market for players, two of their current Nigerian players – Yunusa Muritala and Dele Ola Israel just a few seasons ago had success in the Latvian Virslīga, while two days ago the club announced the signing of the FC Flora Tallinn midfielder Vladislav Kreida. Sigma Olomouc will return to the Czech league after the winter break on February 3rd when they will host Plzeň.
