FK Sūduva Marijampole announced that they have retained their starting goalkeeper, Giedrius Zenkevičius, and key defender Žygimantas Baltrūnas. Both have signed a contract until the end of the 2025 season.
Giedrius Zenkevičius, a Marijampole native, joined Sūduva in 2023 and has been the undisputed number-one goalkeeper for the former A Lyga champions for the last two seasons. Last season, the 27-year-old made 37 appearances across all competitions, achieving 13 clean sheets.
“We spoke with the team’s new head coach, Donatas Vencevčius, about what he expects from his goalkeepers.” Zenkevičius expressed to Sūduva after signing the contract, ‘As a team, we need to show our fighting spirit and move forward next season.’”
Žygimantas Baltrūnas, also from Marijampole, joined Sūduva in 2022 after spending four years with various Italian clubs. Like Zenkevičius, the 22-year-old Baltrūnas has been a starting player for Sūduva over the past two seasons. During the last season, the former Lithuanian U-21 National team player made 28 appearances in the A Lyga and provided one assist.
Baltrūnas spoke to the Sūduva media department, stating, “When I received an offer from my hometown club, I didn’t want to consider anything else. We quickly agreed on the terms and signed the contract.” The defender continued, “Next season, as a team, we strive to achieve a higher placement than last year. I aim to contribute more to Sūduva’s success in the opponent’s half of the field. We want to make our fans happy because they deserve better results.”
FK Sūduva Marijampole will gather on January 8th for the first training to prepare for the new A Lyga season.
