Former Latvian international, Eduards Emsis, has been released by the Norwegian second tier club Raufoss following the end of his contract.
In an announcement on their website yesterday, Raufoss disclosed that eight players will be leaving the club, Latvian Eduards Emsis among them. Emsis, who made 33 appearances and scored two goals for the national team, joined the Norwegian side on an 18-month contract in summer of 2023. At the time, his arrival was met with some anticipation, with Fredrik Greve Monsen, the general manager of the club, saying:
We are delighted to have Eduards join the team now. He is a strong, central midfielder with a wealth of experience from top international football. He exudes calm and authority on the pitch, and has great potential as our new anchor man in midfield.
Since joining, Eduards played 27 games and scored 2 goals for Raufoss, including 4 games and 1 goal in the Norwegian Cup.
Emsis already had a colourful international career prior to moving to Norway. A product of Skonto and Metta academies, Eduards played with Metta and Jelgava in Latvia before leaving for FC Noah in Armenia and winning the Armenian Cup and Super Cup with them. The midfielder then moved to FC Lahti in Finland and KF Egnatia in Albania, with whom he lifted the Albanian Cup. Internationally, Emsis made his debut for Latvia in 2018 under Aleksandrs Starkovs but is yet to play any official games in the new setup of Paolo Nicolato.
It is not yet known where the 28 year old Latvian midfielder will play next.
