FK Sūduva today, on their website, announced that after a 14-year break, Donatas Vencevičius has become the Marijampole club manager again.
The 51-year-old began his professional football career as a midfielder, becoming a champion in Lithuania and Denmark and also as vice-champion in Poland’s highest league. He represented the Lithuanian national team in 33 matches.
Vencevičius started his coaching career in 2007 and quickly found his way to Sūduva. He served as the assistant manager in 2008 and 2009 before becoming head coach in 2010. Under his leadership, Sūduva achieved the remarkable feat of becoming vice-champions of Lithuania for the second time in the club’s history. The team also reached the final of the Baltic League, narrowly losing to FK Ventspils in a penalty shootout.
Throughout his career, he has worked as an assistant at various clubs in Poland and managed the Suwalki side. In Lithuania, he was the manager for Jonava, DFK Dainava, the Lithuanian U-21 national team, and the Vilnius district team, TransINVEST.
The Marijampolė team is set to begin preparations for the 2025 A Lyga season in early January.
