FK Liepāja has made another addition to its line-up with the signing of Senegalese forward Djibril Gueye from Valmiera FC. The 28-year-old striker, known for his physicality, versatility, and goal-scoring instincts, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the Latvian Virslīga.
Gueye made 31 appearances this season, scoring five goals and providing an impressive ten assists, highlighting his ability to contribute both as a scorer and a playmaker. His standout performances extended to the Latvian Cup, where he netted three goals and delivered one assist in just two matches.
Since joining Valmiera FC in 2020, Gueye has been a reliable presence, tallying 113 Virslīga appearances with 34 goals and 20 assists. His best season came in 2022, when he scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 35 matches and of course, winning the Virslīga title. In the Latvian Cup, he was equally effective, amassing eight goals and three assists in eight appearances across four seasons.
For FK Liepāja, which finished sixth in the 2024 season, the addition of Gueye and other standout players is a statement of intent. The club will look to him to spearhead their attack and drive them higher up the Virslīga standings in 2025.
