FK Panevezys has announced that Jovan Cadjenovic, a key player from the 2023 Championship team, will leave the club after two and a half years. The midfielder from Montenegro has accepted a contract with the defending Maltese Premier League champions, Hamrun Spartans FC.
Before Panevėžys, the 29-year-old Cadjenovic played for Marijampole Sūduva. After two years in Kazakhstan and Serbia, he returned to Lithuania during the middle of the 2022 season and quickly established himself as a starting player. His contributions helped Panevėžys achieve their best-ever finish at the time – third place. In the following season, he excelled as a pivotal player in the midfield. During the A Lyga title-winning season, he made 33 appearances, starting in 32 of those matches. Notably, this marked his second A Lyga title, previously winning in 2018 with Sūduva.
This season, Jovan made 41 appearances across all competitions, including a Panevėžys debut in the Champions League. Panevėžys surprised the Finnish side HJK in the qualifying round but ultimately lost to Polish Ekstraklasa champions Jagiellonia in the later round.
In total, Jovan played in 93 games wearing the Panevėžys shirt and won two trophies: the A Lyga title in the 2023 season and the Lithuanian Super Cup in the 2024 season.
