Narva Trans announced this evening that 25-year-old Portuguese Ricardo Afonso will not continue as the team’s head coach next season. Afonso became the head coach of the Narva club when Miguel Moreira, Trans’s previous coach, left the position. Under him, Afonso was the team’s assistant coach.

Afonso, who left Narva, fondly remembers the experience. “I want to thank the club, the players, and the fans for our fantastic five months together! I am thrilled to have been a part of this club’s history. I will remain a loyal Narva Trans fan,” he said in a social media post.

Trans CEO Konstantin Burdakov appreciated the former coach’s contribution but added that the future is seen under the new coach. “The young and talented coach went through a short but difficult period at our club. After long negotiations, our paths parted ways this time. We thank Ricardo for everything and believe in his successful coaching career in the future.”

Afonso led Trans as acting head coach in 13 matches, during which the team achieved five wins, five draws, and three losses. Trans finished this year’s Premium Liiga season in sixth place in the table.

Since the Portuguese only holds a UEFA B coaching license, he would have needed help permanently coaching in the Premium Liiga, for which a UEFA PRO coaching license is required.
