Marten-Chris Paalberg marked his return from a long injury lay-off with an assist as Saint-Étienne beat Sion 5-1 in a friendly.
Sion took an 11th-minute lead, but Jakob Breum equalised three minutes later and Thierno Ballo put Saint-Étienne ahead in the 20th minute. Paalberg was involved in the third goal, his left-footed shot taking a deflection off Breum and finding the net. João Ferreira added a fourth before half-time, with Paalberg also contributing to the move.
The 17-year-old Estonian striker played the first half, leaving the pitch with his side 4-1 up. Ballo scored again after the break to complete the victory.
Paalberg joined Saint-Étienne from Pärnu Vaprus in January and missed the club’s matches last season while recovering from a knee injury caused by overuse. He resumed training with the squad in early September, initially working with the reserve team.
Saint-Étienne began the season with five consecutive wins before losing to Dunkerque and drawing with Metz. They host Rodez on 10 October.
