Henn names Estonia squad for Nations League campaign

Estonia head coach Jürgen Henn has named his squad for the start of the new UEFA Nations League campaign, with Flora winger Sander Alamaa and Levadia attacking midfielder Maksimilian Skvortsov included as potential debutants.

Henn will be without several players for the upcoming international window due to health reasons. Rauno Sappinen, Vlasij Sinjavskij, Vladislav Kreida, Kristo Hussar, Marten-Chris Paalberg, Tony Varjund and Nikita Mihhailov are all unavailable.

Rocco Robert Shein has asked not to join the national team for the upcoming matches, while Soufian Gouram also requested the opportunity to remain with his club.

Following changes to the international calendar, Estonia face an unusually long window featuring four Nations League matches. They begin away against Iceland in Reykjavik on September 26 before travelling to Plovdiv to face Bulgaria three days later. Henn’s side will then return home to host Luxembourg on October 3 and Iceland on October 6. The campaign concludes in November with an away match against Luxembourg and a home fixture against Bulgaria.

Only the group winner will earn direct promotion from League C to League B, while the second-placed team will have another opportunity to go up through the play-offs.

Estonia retained their League C status in the previous Nations League campaign after finishing behind Sweden and Slovakia but ahead of Azerbaijan. They also finished fourth in their most recent World Cup qualifying group, behind Norway, Italy and Israel but ahead of Moldova.
