Estonia forward Karel Mustmaa has joined Serbian SuperLiga side Čukarički on a one-year loan from PAOK B. The 21-year-old spent several years in Benfica’s academy before moving into senior football with the Thessaloniki club’s reserve team last summer.

Mustmaa was a regular for PAOK B, making almost every appearance and contributing four goals and five assists. He had hoped to challenge for a place in PAOK’s first team, but with that route proving difficult, he remained open to a move elsewhere.

“My first impressions are excellent. Everyone is very friendly and the club is well organised,” Mustmaa said via Čukarički. “I have heard that Čukarički are a club capable of upsetting the established order in big matches and usually finish near the top of the table. It is also clear that young players are given opportunities here, and that appealed to me most.”

The 21-year-old Harju academy product has made five appearances for the Estonian national team. Čukarički, who have won the Serbian Cup once in their history, finished eighth out of 16 teams in the SuperLiga last season. They have made a strong start to the new campaign, recording three wins from their first seven matches to sit fourth in the table.

Mustmaa could make his debut on Saturday, when Čukarički travel to face Radnik Surdulica in league action.
