Marko Regža signed his contract on Friday and was already in the starting line-up on Saturday, making his debut for Nyiregyhaza Spartacus in a 1-1 home draw against Paks in the Hungarian top flight.
The 27-year-old Latvian striker began the season in Czechia with Hradec Kralove, but yesterday completed a loan move to Nyiregyhaza, with the Hungarian club also securing an option to make the transfer permanent.
Regža was immediately trusted from the first whistle and quickly made himself a presence in attack. He looked especially dangerous from set-pieces and came close to scoring on his debut, sending a header just over the crossbar.
The Latvian forward also created one of Nyiregyhaza’s best chances, playing Marko Kvasina through for a one-on-one opportunity, but the Austrian attacker was denied by the goalkeeper.
The visitors took the lead in the 50th minute through Zsolt Haraszti, who produced a fine free-kick finish to put Paks in front. Regža’s debut came to an end in the 72nd minute, when he was replaced.
Nyiregyhaza still found a way back late on. Two minutes before the end of regular time, substitute Jean Batoum scored the equaliser to earn the home side a point.
It was Nyiregyhaza’s first draw of the season. After six matches, Regža’s new club sit seventh in the Hungarian league table with seven points.
Their next league match comes on Wednesday, when they travel away to face Vasas.
