Riga FC Women marked their weekend Baltic League title defence by setting a new record in Latvia’s women’s domestic game, scoring 29 unanswered goals away to Rēzekne.
The visitors made a lightning start in Latgale, hitting nine goals in the opening 19 minutes before going in at half-time 17-0 up. The second half brought a further 12 goals between the 52nd and 90th minutes to complete a 29-0 victory.
Rēzekne goalkeeper Linda Vīksniņa was replaced at the break by Anastasija Besedina as Riga Women’s pressure continued. Seventeen-year-old Jekaterina Haritonova scored nine times, while Ieva Krasnova, Venezuelan Karen Boliva and Signija Šenberga each completed hat-tricks. Anna Belova, Japan’s Shiori Kato and Minami Oi scored twice each, with five more players adding a single goal to their name.
It was the second heavy defeat for Rēzekne in five days, having lost 11-0 to Rīgas Futbola skola on Saturday, taking their goals conceded over that spell to 40. Riga Women had already beaten Rēzekne 22-0 in their first meeting on 28 June in the capital.
The sides meet again in 10 days’ time, with the return fixture scheduled in Mežaparks.
