Nõmme Kalju finally ended their winless run against Pärnu Vaprus this season, producing a dominant display to claim a deserved 3-1 victory at Hiiu Stadium and strengthen their position near the top of the Premium Liiga table.

Kalju entered the match having lost both previous meetings with Vaprus this season, but they wasted little time asserting themselves. The hosts created the first chance after just five minutes when Rommi Siht headed narrowly wide before colliding with the post.

The breakthrough arrived in the 11th minute. Oleksandr Musolitin collected the ball on the left wing, drove into the penalty area and curled a superb finish into the top corner after being picked out by Mihhail Orlov.

Just two minutes later Kalju doubled their advantage. Nikita Ivanov delivered an inviting cross into the box, where Siht found himself completely unmarked and headed home to make it 2-0.

Kalju continued to dominate throughout the remainder of the first half, with Orlov, Musolitin and Baptista all going close as Vaprus failed to register a single shot before the interval. The statistics reflected the home side’s superiority, with Kalju leading 14-0 in total shots and 7-0 in efforts on target.

The hosts effectively put the game beyond doubt in the 56th minute. Orlov created space on the edge of the penalty area before curling an excellent finish into the net to score Kalju’s third goal of the evening.

Only after falling three goals behind did Vaprus begin to threaten. Henri Perk denied Pajo before Limberg forced the Kalju goalkeeper into another important save, while Viidas struck the crossbar as the visitors searched for a route back into the contest.

Kalju still looked the more dangerous side, with Musolitin repeatedly threatening from distance and substitute Esono adding fresh energy in attack, but the hosts were unable to extend their lead despite creating several more opportunities.

Vaprus did manage a late consolation goal in stoppage time when Joonas Sild unleashed a stunning long-range strike into the top corner from around 20 metres, but it proved nothing more than a consolation as Kalju comfortably saw out a 3-1 victory.

The win was Kalju’s first over Vaprus this season after suffering defeats in both previous league meetings.
