Estonia international Michael Schjønning-Larsen scored for the second consecutive match on Friday evening, netting a spectacular long-range strike as Kilmarnock came from behind to defeat Ayr United 3-2 and book their place in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals.
The 25-year-old left-back had already opened his account for the season in last weekend’s defeat to Celtic, and he followed it up with another memorable effort in the League Cup last 16. With Kilmarnock trailing, Schjønning-Larsen surged forward from inside his own half, carried the ball unchallenged to the edge of the penalty area, shifted it onto his right foot and unleashed a brilliant strike into the net in the 79th minute to level the score.
His equaliser proved to be the turning point, as Kilmarnock completed the comeback ten minutes later through Moldova international Nicky Clescenco, securing a 3-2 victory and a place in the quarter-finals.
Schjønning-Larsen played the full 90 minutes and was also shown a yellow card late in the match.
Kilmarnock now face a two-week break before returning to Scottish Premiership action on 29 August, when they host Dundee United in search of their first league win of the season.
